Untitled, portrait in pink

Original shot taken on September 12, 2011, in an empty bedroom, Costa Mesa, CA. Final edit on August 11, 2012.

The original image was taken in very low light, with a single light source, a sphere shaped lamp. it was placed on the ground, and the model kneeled with her legs on either side of it. I really didn’t know what I wanted to do with this piece, and it’s been on and off of my “drawing board” for near a year now. I edit exclusively with Photoshop, and I don’t own a tablet, so this is as close to creating a digital painting as I’ve ever come. The textures are from my own stock, a mixture of images I have collected over the years.

Specimen Devin1897
Original shot taken on August 22, 2011, in my living room, Costa Mesa, CA. Final edit on August 23, 2011.
Model - Devin Coffin
Point of interest: This image violated Facebook’s terms of use.
This is the third time Devin and I have worked together, and for the third time we got some amazing shots. This concept was actually Devin’s, and I think I was able to translate it successfully.
About the set: Pink fabric over black. The lighting is a single source, halogen lamp, 600w. Super hot, on a tripod, about 8’ up. Devin did her own makeup and hair.
About the edit: Heavily adjusted the exposure, and contrast. Made some changes to the color levels. Used the Liquify tool to alter Devin’s waist, and eyes, and then blacked them out with the burn tool. I added some texture to the background with custom brushes, and finally, covered her pink bits with the brush tool.
